Our single shining light was a win for Jia Feng in her first representative game for the Main Club. It looked as though she would lose but her opponent left a rook en pris and the game ended when Jia had P. B & K against a solitary K. No surprise that Les' game lasted the longest but unfortunately with his N tucked away from the action, his opponent eventually mated with just a few minutes left on both clocks. Chris Buck & Dave Anderson unfortunately lost fairly soon and while Rob Davies had a promising attack it, all fizzled out when he blew a B

Frazer Graham continued his good run of form with a fine win on Board 1 against a higher graded opponent.
Our other four players find it tough going but all battled on to the end.
In Jia Feng's game, her opponent's time flag fell but unfortunately it meant a draw as she only had K & B --  insufficient mating material.

Well what a surprise as this means two consecutive C team victories & this time in the P&DCL.

Frazer Graham on Board 1, not content with his draw against Tony Corkett in the Club Championship on Tues put down a marker for the Massey Sur-prize with plus 25 grading points victory.

Kalvin White, on Board 5, had his first ever victory playing for Fareham team -- he was in command when his opponent lost on time.

The same cannot be said about Dave Anderson, on Boar 4 as his opponent missed several mating opportunities with Q & K before his clock flag fell & Dave won thanks to still having a lonely P on the board..

Rob Davies, on Board 2 was in terrible time trouble & blundered a R for a N which effectively lost the game, while Alan Butler on Board 3 suddenly found himself mated when both players only had a few minutes each left on the clock.

As Portsmouth originally only had three players, with the agreement of Les S, I changed my original Board order with Les moving from Board 2 to 4 and Jia and Gavin moving up a Board. I didn't see very much of any of the games but it was good to see Chas C get a home win after two away loses. Jia remains the P&DCL star beating their highest graded player. Gavin, playing his first game for Fareham, was put under considerable pressure & unfortunately lost. Les' opponent eventually turned up at 8:10pm and although we could have claimed a timed out win, it was agreed by all parties for the game to be played. Les then should have lost on time but his opponent failed to see that  Les' flag had fallen so the two team captains decided it should be a draw as Les was in a superior position and both players agreed with this.
We're at the half way point of the season & the P&DCL Team has two wins & two losses which is very satisfactory.

While I did not see too much of any of the games, I would like to thank Melissa Hamilton, who is only 9, for standing in when the selected Fareham Board 5 did not attend.Melissa is a very promising Junior attending both our Junior Club on Saturday mornings and our Main Club on Tuesday evenings and this was very first game for the Fareham Chess Club. She & the team may have lost this evening but the future is bright for her & the Club

Things didn't start well this evening as my selected Board 5 did not turn up at the DOCOC even though I waited for 15 minutes & also tried to phone him.
Fortunately the other three selected members were already at Fishbourne by the time I arrived. However, the only one who looked like winning was Alan Butler on Board 1 but his initial advantage disappeared at his game drew to a close and we finished off with a whitewash defeat.
